Case study - Sydney Swans

What started as a simple marketing sponsorship soon kicked-off into a business partnership, with CSG helping the Sydney Swans streamline their office and get office tasks completed quicker and smarter.


The Problem 

When the Melbourne and Sydney based offices needed printer upgrades, Sydney Swans IT Manager Mitch Miller reached out to CSG.  

The Swans offices were looking for an easy photocopier solution that would allow them to efficiently complete the day-to-day tasks of the business, including scanning and documentation processes and fast colour printing and finishing.

“We had been with CSG for quite a long time, and although it’s always good to do business with our partners it doesn’t always work. But the whole process was pretty painless with CSG. We basically put together the specs for the machines and that was it,” said Mitch. 

“Sydney Swans itself is a big organisation. Obviously, you’ve got the players and the club, and people might be wondering how printers and copiers can help transform the game and club management efforts, but we are like any other business.” 

The offices required up to six machines across three locations; one in Melbourne and two in Sydney. Integrated scanning was a big requirement, but with the amount of on-site printing undertaken daily they also needed a printer that could keep up with the demand as well as professionally finish jobs. 


The Solution 

After talking over their requirements, we recommended the Canon imageRUNNER and large format PRO series printers. These machines would enhance everyday office tasks and improve workflows and processes, with features such as scanning and document automation for seamless integration into the business.  

“When I first started photocopiers only copied, and they didn’t actually print. It was only recently that we completely disconnected all our fax machines,” said Mitch. 

“Having everything in one machine makes change easier. And people can see the benefits.” 

“We can now scan directly to network drives and so on. For example, our accountants can now bulk scan and with a push of the button it goes straight into our accounts network drive for invoices.” 

“We’ve set up a number of other scanning destinations, which all work quite well. And I can set-up all six machines centrally. This means I don’t need to go around to each machine. And whenever a location changes, I can just change one and push it out to the others and so on.” 

The solution also ensures that wide format printing such as outdoor advertising and signage could be completed on site. With the addition of a finisher, the team were also able to professionally finish documents – printing and binding in one hit. This allowed departments to manage small print runs, booklets and marketing materials easily and on demand. 

“The football department uses the finisher quite a lot. Especially for player print outs, as we prefer this over electronic copies. We also put together lots of booklets for sponsors – binding them and getting them straight out. Being able to print large format is pretty helpful to them too.” 

In Mitch’s opinion, CSG’s kicks its biggest goals with its service

“They go above and beyond. We’ve had to set-up and move a few times, and it’s been really easy. And it’s good to know you get the same people [service technicians] as well. A bit of consistency makes a difference and is really important to us,” said Mitch.
